The moment you step into the Heejin Yang(양희진) studio, you're greeted by a large white porcelain moon jar(dalhangari)—full-bodied yet restrained in its elegance, much like a round, glowing moon. It evokes the dignified presence of a Joseon-era scholar, yet in harmony with the clean, curated studio space, it also gives off the impression of a contemporary installation artwork.

On the 28th, the spotlight was on a 45cm moon jar by master potter Roh Youngjae(미강 노영재), also known as Migang, valued in the 10-million-won range. Roh is a top-tier artist who received the Grand Prize in the ceramics category at the prestigious Korea Annual Traditional Handicraft Art Exhibition, and is often referred to as "the potter who unlocked the secret door of Joseon white porcelain." Trained by his great-grandfather Hosan Ahn Dongoh, a recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage holder, he was named the 10th Master of Joseon Royal Ceramics in 2023.

Though Roh Youngjae moon jars may appear similar at first glance, each one offers a subtly distinct experience through variations in texture and color. From snow-like pure white, to milky white reminiscent of a mother’s touch, to soft blue-tinged celadon, and even pale gray with a whisper of warmth the delicate interplay of clay and fire in the kiln gives each piece its own unique life.
